Who We Are

Leading Effective Action for Development (LEAD) Sierra Leone is a youth-led, nonprofit organization founded in 2021 to promote equitable development and empower young people to lead community transformation. From our headquarters in Makeni, Bombali District, we work across Sierra Leone—currently with an active presence in five districts—mobilizing youth, women, and underserved communities to drive sustainable change.

Our work is guided by purpose, informed by data, and strengthened by the voices of those we serve. Through advocacy, education, innovation, and grassroots mobilization, we deliver impactful programs in youth leadership, education, health, environmental sustainability, gender equality, and social inclusion.

A Sierra Leone where every individual has the skills, knowledge, and opportunity to promote holistic development and foster positive, community-led change.

Our Vision

Our Mission

To empower people and transform communities through advocacy, youth empowerment, and community engagement.

We operate with a strong value base that shapes our actions, partnerships, and decision-making:

  • Impact-Driven – We measure success by the positive, lasting change we bring to people’s lives.

  • Inclusivity – We embrace diversity and ensure all voices are heard and valued.

  • Accountability – We commit to transparency and responsibility at every level of our work.

  • Adaptability – We remain responsive to dynamic challenges and opportunities in our operating environment.

Our Core Values

Our Approach

LEAD Sierra Leone believes that local solutions create lasting impact. We work side by side with communities—especially young people and marginalized groups—to co-design initiatives that address real needs while building skills, leadership, and resilience.

Our approach combines:

  • Youth Leadership Development – Training and mentoring the next generation of changemakers.

  • Community-Led Action – Empowering local voices to drive their own development.

  • Evidence-Based Programs – Using data, research, and monitoring to ensure impact.

  • Partnerships for Change – Collaborating with local, national, and global partners for greater reach and effectiveness.

Our Legal and Ethical Commitment

Registered as a national nonprofit under the laws of Sierra Leone, LEAD Sierra Leone operates in compliance with all relevant national and international legal standards. We uphold strong governance through a volunteer Board of Directors and a professional management team. Our internal policies reflect best practices in safeguarding, gender inclusion, financial management, and environmental responsibility.

Where We Work

From mining-affected towns in the east to rural farming communities in the north, LEAD Sierra Leone works where the need is greatest—restoring degraded environments, promoting peacebuilding, advancing gender equality, and creating opportunities for youth to thrive.
